Creating Your Home Plan

Searching for a home plan that best suits your functional needs and personal style can be a daunting task.  To give you as many ideas and options as possible, Simonson Lumber has a complete home referencing area with books and CD ROMs offering thousands of home style and size options.

Once you have found a floor plan that suits your needs, you can make arrangements with Simonson Lumber’s professional, computerized drafting department to ‘fine tune’ your floor plan.  Our drafting department will draw and transfer your plan to a computerized blueprint where you can make as many major or minor changes as you wish.

  • Look for two or three potential lots that will accommodate the “footprint” or size of your home.  Choose lots in developments that best suit your needs and lifestyle. In the event that one of your preferred lots is sold, you will have one or two other favorable lots to choose from. Be sure to inquire about each lot’s yearly property taxes and special assessments to help you determine the lot size that accommodates your financial goals.
  • Anticipate future goals for your home.  Are you building with the idea that you will be living in this home for 3-7 years?  Then you may want to consider a house plan and lot location with good resale options.  Are you planning to live in this home for 7 or more years?  You may want to consider building a home that is easy to expand upon so you may enlarge or add rooms in 5 or 7 years.  If you’d like to add onto your home in the future, be sure to select lot and house plan that will accommodate that growth.
